If you wish to point a domain name that you have to another domain or subdomain, one of the ways to do that would be to use a CNAME record. By setting up such a record, the domain being pointed loses all its records (A, MX, and so forth) and instead, it takes the A record of the Internet domain it's pointed to. This way, if you use a web design service by some company that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain name and not only will it be redirected to the Internet site which you have set up, but it will also appear in the browser address bar at all times. Some other possible uses of a CNAME record are to direct all of the traffic from various subdomains to their main Internet domain, or to use the webmail service of your hosting provider by using webmail.your-doman.com, for instance. The latter will work only by creating a CNAME record for a subdomain simply because this type of a record set up for the main domain makes it impossible to use email addresses.

CNAME Records in Cloud Hosting

If you have a cloud hosting plan from our company and you want to create a CNAME record, it'll take you only a few clicks to do it. You can access the DNS records for all domains and subdomains hosted in your account through the Hepsia Control Panel that comes with each plan and adding a new record is as easy as clicking on a button, choosing the type, which will be CNAME in this case, entering the actual record value and saving the change. If you've never added this kind of record before, you will find a Help section with a detailed video tutorial you can watch, or you can just contact us and we'll assist you with this task. If you have created an Internet site via another company, you want to use a private URL for your webmail or you wish to designate a subdomain to be used with the services of a different company, like Google Apps, all it takes is creating a CNAME record with a few clicks inside your Control Panel.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

You'll be able to create, modify and delete CNAME records very easy with any of our semi-dedicated server plans. The accounts are controlled using the custom Hepsia hosting CP, and in one of its sections you'll see all records for any domain address or subdomain which you have added in your account. To create a new record, you simply have to pick the hostname that'll be forwarded (domain/subdomain), input where it will be forwarded to, select the record type, that'll be CNAME in this case, and you'll be all set. In case you haven't used a web hosting service before, our CP is incredibly easy to use, so you will not have any problems. We also have a short video and a detailed help article on how to set up a CNAME record, both of which are located in the exact same section of Hepsia. With this function, you could easily use a domain address hosted on our innovative cloud hosting platform for a site created somewhere else, create a custom webmail login address with any of your domains, and more.
